Cult Classic Films

So I am not someone who particularly watches the 'cult classics'. In fact, I have been deemed many a derogatory word for not watching any of the Godfather trilogy or Taxi Driver, Rocky or even Pulp Fiction (in my opinion they all appeal to a particularly masculine audience). But I have compiled a list of those Cult Classics according to my personal opinion. Again, discussion and debate welcome!

  1. The Rocky Horror Show
  2. The Princess Bride
  3. The Big Lebowski
  4. A Clockwork Orange
  5. The Shawshank Redemption
  6. Texas Chainshaw Massacre
  7. Napoleon Dynamite
  8. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original)
  9. Fight Club
  10. Trainspotting

Some fairly dark and morose films made the list, but that is what makes them classics.

Let's start at the very beginning...with Disney

I thought the beginning would be a very good place to start. Just as you learn to write with ABC, and learn to sing with Doe-Ray-Me, at some point in our lives we all learn the power of movies with the guiding hand of Disney. I am sure I am not the only person who experienced their first laugh with the help of Dopey's clumsiness in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, or hummed along for the first time to the musical score of The Little Mermaid.

Before the days of animated 3D movies and over-the-top special effects, we were captivated by the work of Walt Disney, a man immortalised for his cartoon wizardry and childlike imagination. I am talking about the days when our parents would park us in front of the TV for a couple of hours of blissful silence, relying on the magic of Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio and Aladdin to keep our attention just long enough for them to get some much needed rest and re cooperation.

What I am about to embark on is not for the faint-hearted. It's an age old topic for discussion and debate, but I am going to attempt to list the top 10 Disney movies (in no particular order) based on storyline, animation and imagination. Now this list is by no means set in stone, in fact this task has been carried out by several other bloggers and there is even a website dedicated to the ranking of Disney movies. It is also open to discussion and I welcome everyone's opinions, even if you're disagreeing with me! I may not have mentioned classics, I may have included some that people would rather forget. But these gems are my some of my favourite things, so enjoy!

Here it goes...
  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  2. Bambi
  3. Cinderella
  4. Lady and the Tramp
  5. The Little Mermaid
  6. Beauty and the Beast
  7. Aladdin
  8. The Lion King
  9. Pocahontas
  10. Hercules
